Unfortunate Things

Hi! So, you know what’s stupid?

No, really. In my stupidity and general laziness, I apparently forgot to celebrate the one year anniversary of this blog. Oh, well. And now on to some extremely happy news.

Christmas is coming!

If you’re a regular kid, you’ve probably been counting the days off like there’s no tomorrow. So as of today, there’s a little more than a week left until Christmas. Yay! Now on to some even better news, which is that I have been given two weeks off school so I can sleep until noon and be a lazy lump! Hooray!

No, but seriously. Forget waterboarding. Try having to sit through the last period of the day while the teacher drones on about chromosomes and osmosis and other fun science-y type stuff. And then when I finally got home I had to do two weeks worth of reading logs because I knew from past experience I would forget all about it and do it all on the last day of Christmas break. Let me tell you, that almost drove me insane. Not kidding.

But, now that’s out of the way, I can have fun and go Christmas shopping for my numerous cousins and bathe in happiness and joy on Christmas Day! Merry Christmas! And Happy Hanukkah and Kwanzaa, I guess. Remember kids, always be politically correct.

Bye!

YAAAYYY!

Published by under Happiness and Joy and tagged:

Hi! So I know it’s been a long time. But I wanted to wait so I could make this post. You see, this is a very special day because I just hit 1,000 visits!!!!!!!!!!!

Yippee!

This is a very special milestone for me because in case you haven’t noticed, 1,000 is quite a lot of people. So I’d like to thank 589 people from the U.S, 67 from Australia, 56 from Canada, 52 from Britain, and all the other countries that helped me reach 1,071 views. Especially all the countries that I have never, ever heard about in  my life, such as Mauritius and Laos.

So, as it is a special occasion, I will take you through a bunch of my older posts.

“Hello everyone reading this!! My name is Janis and I am in 6th grade. I started this blog to put on a lot of things, such as writing, current events…” Just kidding! I won’t take you through all the older posts. That’s way too boring.

Instead, I would like to hold a memorial for my long-dead cyberpet, Wolfie. If you actually bothered to visit my blog when it first started, you probably noticed the far more interesting blue wolf in the sidebar named Wolfie. Well, when I changed pretty much everything about this blog, I also took away Wolfie and put Darcy the ferret in. Look, he’s on the sidebar right now. Say hi!

Attack ferrets are awesome.

So, I’d like to say thank you one more time, and now I’m going to leave so I can finish my math homework.

Bye!

My Amazing Life

Hi! So, you know what I hate? Whenever you’re working at an art project or something and the person sitting next to you kind of looks over their shoulder to peek at yours. Now, this could go either of two ways.

First of all, Mr. Bobby here (Random name time!) might do that little smirk thing that people do when they think they’re doing better than you. Like, “Heh heh heh, that girl’s going so slow, I’m already halfway done with my project and it’s so much better than hers.”

The other option is that Mr. Bobby would think your project is better than his and so he begins to copy yours. And he thinks he’s doing it sneakily, but all the while you’re thinking “You idea-stealing little-”

Seriously! Get your own ideas, Mr. Bobby! I don’t want you copying my Mother’s Day card, buddy! And you know what’s the worst part? When this happens.

“Hey, there, Mr. Bobby!” “Hi, Mrs. Teacher.” “That’s a lovely card you’ve got there. Just keep on doing that- oh Janis, what’s this? Are you copying Mr. Bobby? That’s not very nice. Apologize to Mr. Bobby, please.”

Wait- so now he’s getting the credit for my hard work? What kind of justice system is this?

No, I’ll stop my little rant. I’m crazy. Don’t listen to me. (Awkward silence time…)

Okay, okay…

Alright. Yes! I’m an idiot! I haven’t posted in a while. Well, maybe seven or eight days. Well, I’m sorry. On to more fun subjects.

What have I been doing recently?

Well, first of all, I went trick-or-treating. And props to the lovely people on a certain block (you know who you are, even though you probably aren’t reading this) who were nice enough to give me and my sister handfuls of candy. Other people only gave us one mini candy bar. You know, the kind that’s smaller than a thumb.

Secondly, I had a race today, and I found out that I’m probably better at track then cross country (I’ve also recently learned there’s a difference between the two. Well, I feel stupid.) since I also found out I can sprint faster than one of the fastest girls on the team. Why would I be better at track, though? I can only sprint for so long. If I tried to sprint like that for more than 400 meters I would die.

Thirdly, I would like to recommend a book to you guys! It’s called Tangerine by Edward Bloor. It’s a fantastic read. If you like soccer, read it. If you like weird environmental disasters, read it. If you like mean older brothers, read it. If you like tangerines, then you should definitely read it. There’s also football, snotty white schools, and gangs.

So yes, I’ve been leading an incredibly glamorous life lately… bye!

OOOOOHH!!!!!!

Published by under Happiness and Joy

Okay, I know that you probably hate me by now because of the irregular posting- but I just found out I hit 900 views!!!!!!!!! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy!

Anyway, now that bit of celebration is over, I would like to give a few facts about this blog.

1. Everything is 100% original. The content, maybe not the header since I don’t have a fancy camera, but even how sometimes I don’t capitalize the titles all the way. All of that is my own decisions. No influences.

2. The one year anniversary of this blog will be soon- only maybe two months away! And I know that sounds like a long time, but really, it’s not.

3. This blog was started by my teacher who moved to Canada. So, thank you for that.

I’m going to go now.

Bye! :)

Ramblings about my life

Hi! So yes, I know, I know, I let you down again and didn’t post for a little more than a week. Blame it on procrastination or whatever. Anyway, I think I should tell you about what has been going on recently.

Last Friday, I went on a field trip- well, sort of a field trip. An out-of-school field trip that was still organized by the school, but was on a day where there was no school- anyway, I went on a trip with some other kids from my school to a college called CSULB, or California State University Long Beach.

It was fun! Sort of.

You see, the whole concept of the trip was to introduce girls (It was an all-girls field trip) to the idea of becoming an engineer, since only about 10% of engineers are women. So here’s how it went: when we arrived, we were herded into groups that were named after Greek letters, such as τ (Tau). That’s actually the only one I know, since that was the group I was in.

Anyway, after several boring speeches, we got to go to workshop #1. The first one for Tau was a sort of “Sticky Circuits” thing or whatever, but we made conductors out of clay. As a competition, we had to make a creative series circuit. My group made a little man and we almost won. A caterpillar won.

Then came the second workshop, which was hydraulics. Basically we talked about water and contamination and how to fix it and stuff.

Then came a bunch of little booths where we made slime, had a paper airplane-flying contest, and I actually met my friend who moved to Redondo at the slime-making booth.

Then came lunch! I don’t know if you care, but it was pizza and other assorted snacks. I waited an age to get cotton candy with my friends. Then after a while the kids from Jane Addams went back home.

So… yeah! It was pretty fun. I really need another synonym for that. Fun, fun, fun, fun, fun…

Welcome to CSULB!

A Sad Day…

Hi! So I know this is sort of old news, but I never got the chance to write about it for some reason. And the news is that the genius of the decade, Steve Jobs, died at 56.

I was crushed. Seriously! He changed our way of life permanently! He gave us the iPod and one of the thinnest laptops ever and most importantly, Toy Story!

(Okay, fine. The iMac and stuff might be better than Toy Story. But Pixar’s work of genius is still the best in my opinion.)

Anyway, I’m sorry, Mr. Jobs, and if you haven’t seen his 2005 commencement speech, you really should. Click here, thank you very much.

Anyway, I’m going to go off and use my iPod now, so remember: be safe, eat your vegetables, and remember: it’s not using too much time on the computer. You’re mourning. :)

Happy Birthday!

Published by under Past Events and tagged: , , , , ,

Hi! So, I know that I haven’t posted for a couple weeks. Well, guess what- a ton of birthdays just cropped up, most importantly my dad’s, so I’ve been working my butt off getting stuff ready. In the end we had a ton of balloons and confetti and other assorted bits of awesomeness. Wow, that’s catchy. “Assorted bits of awesomeness.”

Anyway!

Other stuff that has been going on recently that took up my time:

  • I’m on the track team (I call it track because cross country sounds boring.) and  my first race was yesterday. I got sixth place. I probably would have done better if I hadn’t twisted my ankle on the sidewalk midway.
  • I went over to my friend Jessica’s house to help her make stuff for her campaign. I made a ton of campaign shirts and my hands got all cramped up. She ended up winning and I ended up losing my voice because I yelled “Vote for Jessica” too much.
  • I had a short story assignment due around a week ago and I had to work really hard on that. Oh, and a brochure for science. And studying for a math test because it turns out seventh grade integers aren’t really my thing.
  • I have a party to go to tomorrow and I need to go buy a present.
  • I watched X-Men: First Class yesterday and it’s really good.
  • I tried out for the volleyball and I found out I really enjoy volleyball, even though I stink at it since I never played before.
  • I also tried out for chorus and I actually made it. :)
  • I hit 800 visits! Hooray!

Anyway, that’s what I’ve been up to lately… I’m also debating if I should enter an essay contest or not, but I don’t think I can, because the topic is “Why are you proud to pledge allegience to America?” or something along those lines and I don’t know if you know this or not, but I’m not really a big fan of America.

I have to go- so anyway, sorry for not posting, and I’ll see you soon if I don’t turn into a lazy procrastinator again. Bye!

Yay for turtles!

Published by under Opinions and tagged: , , , , , ,

Hi! Don’t listen to the title. This post will have nothing to do with turtles. However, I would like to say sorry for not posting for so long. I don’t know why I didn’t. Actually, I do- I came up with the theory that kids with boring and/or overwhelmingly important homework become affected with what I call “I Have Plenty of Time So I Shall Do This Later” Syndrome. It can also go by:

  • “Just One More Chapter” Syndrome
  • “I’ll Do This Once I Finish That” Syndrome
  • “No Really! I Finished It, Mom!” Syndrome
  • “Ugh, I Have Volleyball Practice and Piano Lessons… I Have No Time” Syndrome

And you can call it procrastination, but seriously! I do this thing where I have an inability to get up, pick up my pencil, and finish pg. 47, #4-30.

And while I sucked at volleyball tryouts and never got how to play the piano, I have thought all of that before. But why does this happen? It’s not because I’m not motivated. I’m very, very motivated.

“Janis, hurry up and get the pencil and finish your homework doitdoitdoit come on hurry up why are you not moving go go go go go go go!!!!!!” (Those are my thoughts, if you didn’t notice.)

And that’s my reason for skipping my blog posts- and finishing my projects at ten o’ clock- and putting away the milk ten minutes after I took it out.

No, all pretend diseases aside, I really have just been a total procrastinator for the past few days, and I think it’s because I have what I call “Oh My God, I Have All This Time On My Hands” Syndrome- where I have such a small amount of homework I put it off doing it to enjoy my surplus of free time. I’m joking. Well, about the syndrome thing.

Bye!

To read or not to read…

Published by under Literature and tagged: , ,

Hi! (I know, I know. I didn’t post on Friday. So here’s a Saturday post.) So, recently I found about the Cate School reading list. If you were wondering, Cate School is this amazing boarding school in Carpinteria with a ton of extracurricular activities and stuff like that. Tuition is $43,000. No kidding.

So if you clicked on the link, you should know that there are tons of books to read. And while I’m sure they’re all very good books, some are guaranteed to be boring and I won’t like it.

Long story short, I just chose a few from each category and I ended up with a hundred or so books.

Why did I just put up a picture of gummy bears? Anyway, I plan to read all one hundred and eighteen, and I will prevail! Even if it takes me three years!

I don’t really know how to segue out of this, so… bye. Wish me luck!
